Awesome movie track

Post by Pyx » 05 Apr 2010, 14:19

There are so many crappy, worthless movies out there which trap you into trying it, only to get disappointed in the end. So let's help each other out by listing those little gems, the truly awesome (or at least far above the standard crop) movies!

I'll start and amend the list with your suggestions:
- Amelie
- Donnie Darko
- Fanboys
- La femme Nikita (oldie)
- Le Grand Bleu
- Leon
- The usual suspects
- The King of Kong (technically a documentary ...)
- The Sting
- Superbad
- Zombieland

If we're going that old, I'll add The Towering Inferno to the list

Some more goodness:
- Harold and Kumar in search of the White Castle
- Harold and Kumar go to Guantanamo Bay

Fantastic call on La Femme Nikita, which doesn't tend to get the recognition it deserves. But, you can't pick a Luc Besson film and not also include:

Leon

Damn, you beat me with this one! One awesome movie, just watched it yesterday once again :)
Few movies that came to my mind:
- Amelie
- The usual suspects
- Donnie Darko

And on that Luc Besson track, do yourself a pleasure and include Le Grand Bleu on your watch-list as well. Donnie Darko was awesome btw!

Some other French movies worth to watch:
- L'adversaire
- Funny Games
- La Pianiste
- La Piscine

2 really good Werewolf movies, and an old horror movie then:

- Ginger Snaps 3 (the first two ones are good too, but nr 3 is exceptional)
- Dog Soliders
- Nightbreed

And already listed: - Fanboys. Awesome movie! *grin*

Have to edit myself -

- Gladiatress

I have not seen any of these, but will make a point of doing so.

Can't agree with you on Donnie Darko though, I thought it was awful - a paradoxical temporal cycle of awful. It's just a pointlessly cryptic remake of Groundhog Day with a scary looking rabbit in it.

But another one for the list:

Run Lola Run
You no take candle!

Up is awesome. Genuinely touching and funny. Best cg animation type thing since Toy Story.

I can see why people didn't like District 9 - it's not what I expected - but I really enjoyed it anyway. It was a little bit different which I liked, and a much better film than James Cameron's Pocahontas 3D.

I demand that Pyx watches Up and acts as an independent adjudicator.

And just to stay on track:

In Bruges
Kamikaze Girls
Role Models

In Bruges rocked, and I'll add the other two to my watch list. Still not sure about Up though ... (and just ignore Jaera regarding District 9, that was a decent movie).

Okay, over to Danish films:
- Green Butchers
- Adam's Apples
(Anders Thomas Jensen ftw!)

Oh, and don't forget The Last Supper, that is one cool movie!

Stumbled here in my boredom and decided to suggest a few titles:

American History X
A Clockwork Orange
Children of Men

Also, agreed on the Luc Besson's films. They're quite awesome.

This thread is shaping up nicely. As an aside some great series:
> The Wire
> Mad Men
> Weeds
> Entourage (Ari Gold is the best character ever :D)
